Explanation of Positions
of Sigma Nu Fraternity

Eminent Commander* |
| The Eminent Commander (also referred to as 'Commander' or 'EC') is in essence the president of the fraternity. His powers and duties include, but are not limited to, the following: assuming the role of leader for the whole chapter; presiding over all chapter convocations; representing the chapter to a variety audiences; serving as the main link of communication to the General Fraternity Headquarters, alumni, Villanova University, and the local community. |

Lieutenant Commander* |
| The Lieutenant Commander (also referred to as 'LT' or 'LC') is in essence the vice-president of the fraternity. His powers and duties include, but are not limited to, the following: assuming the role of 'office manager' or 'chief of staff' as he heads all of the committees, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the chapter, working closely with the Eminent Commander to organize and maintain the internal affairs of the chapter, heading the Honor Board for member discipline. |

Treasurer* |
| The Treasurer is in essence the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the fraternity. His responsibilities include collecting member dues each semester, maintaining the chapter's financial records, overseeing the chapter's bank account, and developing an annual budget for all areas of operation. |

Recorder* |
| The Recorder is the man responsible for providing written documentation and records of all chapter convocations. |
|
Marshal* |
| The Marshal leads the candidates through their candidacy to Initiation. He is responsible for ultimately preparing the new members to become official brothers. He works closely with the LEAD Chairman since the Marshal plays an important role in the candidate education program (LEAD). He is also the liaison between the candidate class and the rest of the chapter. |

Chaplain* |
| The Chaplain facilitates two important areas of the chapter: the ritual and brotherhood. He oversees the proper and appropriate use of the ritual in the chapter. Additionally, he is in charge of the brotherhood programming for the chapter. |

LEAD Chairman |
| The LEAD Chairman oversees all phases of the LEAD program that the chapter is currently utilizing. Specifically, he facilitates the majority of Phase I (new member education program) sessions and must recruit guest facilitators to complete the other sessions. He works closely with the Marshal in developing a schedule for the candidates' education that will coincide with the rest of the candidacy (also referred to as 'pledging') period. |

Recruitment Chairman |
| The Recruitment Chairman leads the efforts to expand the amount of manpower in the chapter. He works closely with the Magister in developing a recruitment schedule at the beginning of each semester. He emphasizes the chapter's 365 day-a-year recruitment philosophy so as to maximize the opportunities the chapter has to display itself to potential new members. |

Magister (pronounced 'Mah-gee-ster') |
| The Magister is a position that the Kappa Zeta chapter of Sigma Nu at Villanova University adopted. In essence, the magister is the assistant recruitment chairman. He works closely with the Recruitment Chairman in order to develop a strong recruitment plan for the upcoming year. He alleviates the many duties and responsibilities of the Recruitment Chairman. |

Sentinel* |
| The Sentinel is in charge of protecting the ritual so that it does not become public knowledge. At chapter convocations, he guards the entrance of the room and ensures that no one from outside can see or hear the meeting. |

Philanthropy Chairman |
| The Philanthropy Chairman is responsible for the chapter's philanthropic efforts. He plans and coordinates philanthropy activities with other groups and contacts the charities and foundations that will benefit from the chapter's good deeds. |
|
Scholarship Chairman |
| The Scholarship Chairman oversees and monitors the chapter's academic progress both individually and as a whole. He coordinates study hours for new members and brothers who may be struggling academically. He encourages brother-to-brother support, especially if at least two brothers share the same major. |
|
Social Chairman |
| The Social Chairman plans and organizes all social activities of the chapter. He acts as the liaison to sororities and other groups interested in doing mixers and other fun social events. He ensures that the chapter has plenty of fun during the year but never at the jeopardy of lower grades. |
|
Intramurals and Athletics Chairman |
| The Intramurals and Athletics Chairman plans and encourages the participation of the chapter in intramural sports. Some sports may include flag football, basketball, and softball. He will complete the necessary paperwork so the chapter can officially participate in these activities. Additionally, he organizes workout sessions for interested brothers and encourages weekly basketball and football pickup games. |

IFC Representatives |
| The IFC Representatives are two appointed brothers who represent Sigma Nu at the weekly meetings of the InterFraternity Council, the governing body of all the fraternities on campus. They report back to the Chapter with news and updates of the other fraternities. |
|
Webmaster |
| The Webmaster maintains the chapter's website. He makes necessary updates and changes to the site and posts important news and information. |
|
Faculty/Chapter Advisor |
| The Faculty/Chapter Advisor offers mental and emotional support to the chapter for all areas of operation. He must be an alumnus of Sigma Nu and preferably of our particular chapter. Our Faculty/Chapter Advisor is Dr. Oliver Ludwig ('Doc'). |
